The Gateway Golf Course is an 18 hole, Par
72 course that measures 6,917 yards from the back tees, the designed is
unknown, and the course opened in 1946 and has a rating of 73.1 with a slope of
125.
The course
was designed with narrow Oak and Mesquite tree lined Fairways and a creek which
runs throughout the course. The 1st
tee is very elevated over the fairway and green, the 9th hole plays
up a steep hill and is a real challenge as is the the 18th hole. The extreme elevation changes overlook the
San Antonio skyline. The course was in
excellent condition when I played it, with lush trees and bushes, and open fairways
and greens and scenic views while playing the course, but if it rains, and the
creek tends to turn into a small lake.
The golf
course is for the military and their guests only.
