The Custer Hill Golf course is located at
Fort Riley Kansas and is an 18-hole Par 72 course that measures 7,072 yards
from the back tees. The first nine holes
(the front nine) were designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and built in
1922. The second nine holes were also
designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. but date of construction is not known. Today, the 18 hole course has a rating of
74.9 with a slope of 131.
The course
is a typical Robert Trent Jones Sr. layout, a lot of water hazards and sand
traps/bunkers plus tree lined fairways on rolling hills. The back nine holes have some of the most
challenging and scenic holes. The course
is an enjoyable one to play. However,
when I played the course, the fairways were not in the best condition. The greens were in good shape and they were
fast
Don’t forget
to leave time for the Fort Riley Museum and all the tanks and the monument to
Custer’s Horse.
The golf
course is open to the public.
