The Underwood Golf Complex has two golf
courses, the Sunset Course and the Sunrise Course. Both courses are typical south Texas layouts,
flat with a lot of sand and wind. Both
courses are worth the time to stop and play.
The Sunset Course:
This is an 18-hole, Par 71 course that measures 6,629 yards from the
back tees. The designer of the course is
not known but the course did open in 1934.
The current course has a rating of 70.2 with a slope of 119.
The Sunset
course is the older of the two courses but the greens have been re-built and
are now some of the most challenging greens in the city.
The Sunrise Course:
This course is an 18-hole, Par 72 course that plays at 6,942 yards from
the back tees. The course was designed
by Kenneth Dye Jr. and opened in 1995, with a rating of 73.1 and a slope of
126. The Sunrise is the newer of the two
courses.
This is an
excellent south Texas course to play. It
is challenging but not too difficult, well maintained, and with majestic views
of the mountains to the north and the city skyline to the south.
These
courses are all open to the public.
