Today the Fort Benning Golf Course consists of
three 9-hole courses; the Bradley Course,
the Marshall Course and the Patton Course. All three courses are Par 36 layouts. The courses were designed by Robert Tent
Jones Sr. and Lester Lawrence, with lots of water and sand.
In the
beginning the base started with nine hole courses. The first nine holes opened in 1923, the
second nine holes opened in 1930, the third nine holes opened in 1950, and the
fourth nine holes opened in 1960. In the
1960’s they were made into two 18 hole courses, the Lakeside Course and the
Pineside Course.
In 2006 they
changed once again. Now there are thee
nine hole courses. The Bradley course measures 3,197 yards
from the back tees, the Marshall Course
measures 3,521 yards from the back tees, and the Patton course that measures 3,332 yards from the back tees
.
All of the
courses are located on the base and are tree lined with rolling hills and sand
traps/bunkers. When I played the courses,
the fairways and greens were in excellent condition, I hope they’re still in
that condition.
