The United States Naval Academy golf course first
opened in 1916 and was originally a 9-hole course located adjacent to the
Academy yard. The current golf course was
acquired by the Academy around 1939. The
course was redesigned by William Flynn to become an 18-hole, par-71 course that
measures 6,528 yards from the back tees with a rating of 71.8, and a slope of
128.
The course
is challenging with many of the greens elevated above the fairway. Hole number
17 is especially challenging with a small green setting atop a small hill. Accuracy off the tee box is essential. The course is lined with large, mature trees
guarding the fairways and greens.
The golf
course is open to the public and is open tor round, weather permitting.
